Researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine, San Diego, found that men who had had problems with ejaculation had a lower risk of death, which was the strongest finding to date. The risk of death was lower for men who were also using Viagra or other ED medications.
“We are a small team,” said Goldstein, a former head of Pfizer’s research laboratory and a professor of genitourinary medicine. “So we’re working with the men in this study to get the benefit of these men by giving them a little bit more information about their sexual health.”
Researchers have found that men who were at high risk of dying from erectile dysfunction had a lower risk of dying from other conditions compared with men who were healthy and did not use Viagra or other ED medications.
Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps men get and keep an erection. But, the effects are so strong that when it is taken by men with erectile dysfunction, it can cause a man to have a very bad reaction to an erection.

The study was funded by Pfizer Inc. (Nasdaq: P3) and is not expected to affect sales.
Viagra was not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and its safety has not been established for a number of other reasons. The most important of which is that men with erectile dysfunction do not always have good blood flow to the penis.
Edward Abramson, a urology surgeon and director of the University of Rochester School of Medicine, said, “There are two key things that can lead to erectile dysfunction. One, we’re going to use our ability to improve blood flow to the penis for a short period of time and two, we’re going to have to do that over time.”
